The Portuguese star scored against the Galician side in his first competitive game for Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo has happy memories of his meetings with Deportivo. The Portuguese star made his first competitive appearance for Real Madrid against the Galicians, also opening his scoring account for the Whites. The game came on 29 August 2009 at the Santiago Bernabéu, and ended in a 3-2 victory. Cristiano hit Madrid’s second goal from the penalty spot.
Since that encounter, Deportivo has visited Real Madrid on a further two occasions in La Liga – and both times were on the receiving end of goals from the Madrid number seven. In 2010 he notched a brace, then claimed a hat-trick in 2012. What’s more, the match-up between the teams at Riazor this season saw Cristiano find the net three times.
Benzema and Marcelo also made their debuts against Deportivo
Cristiano’s first competitive match for Real Madrid was also Benzema’s debut for the club. The Frenchman was in the starting line-up for the game and played the first 72 minutes. Marcelo, meanwhile, also made his Madrid bow against Deportivo, but in his case it was at Riazor in January 2007.
